This past fortnight has been a wonderful celebration of learning, community, and connection at Beaconsfield Primary. Our students and families have enjoyed so many rich experiences, from the lively Billy Bush Tea Dance, and the adventurous Year 5/6 Camp, to our wonderful Father’s Day Stall and Raffle. Year 1/2B explored the wonders of science and history on their excursion to QVMAG, while our Student Leaders showed outstanding initiative in hosting a Free Dress Day and Dance Event to support a food drive for our Child and Family Learning Centre and the wider community.
These events showcase the spirit of our school, coming together to learn, celebrate, and give back. Thank you to staff, families, and students for making each of these activities such a success.
Lifting Literacy: The Big Six
We are committed to helping every student become a confident, capable reader. That’s why we use a structured and evidence-based approach to teaching literacy, built around what’s known as the Big Six.
The Big Six are the essential foundations of literacy. They work together to support students as they move from learning to read, to reading to learn—and beyond. These six areas are taught explicitly and in a clear, sequenced way to ensure all students, no matter their starting point, can grow and succeed.
What are the Big Six?
Oral Language – The ability to speak, listen, and understand the sounds we use when we talk.
Phonological Awareness – Recognising the sounds in our speech.
Phonics – Understanding how letters and sounds work together.
Vocabulary – Knowing and using a wide range of words.
Fluency – understanding the meaning of words and sentences as they are being read.
Comprehension – using the other five skills to understand what is being read.
The Big Six are not just skills for early readers or young students. They continue to be important throughout your child’s education.
How can families support literacy at home?
You play an important role in your child’s literacy development. Talking with your child, reading together, playing word games, and asking questions about stories are all powerful ways to support what your child is learning at school.
If you’d like to know more about how the Big Six are taught in our classrooms or how to support your child’s literacy at home, please contact to your child’s teacher.
Together, we can help every student thrive as a reader, writer, and thinker.
Every School Day Matters
We love seeing your children at school, every day. Going to school every day gives your child every chance to learn, grow and connect with their friends and teachers. It gives us a chance to engage with your child. We all play a part in helping our kids get to school every day. It’s where bright futures start and where they’ll benefit the most. With an education and support for wellbeing, anything is possible for our children and young people.
Our Father’s Day Raffle was made possible thanks to the incredible generosity of our local community. The Beaconsfield Primary School Association would like to sincerely thank the following businesses for their kind donations and support:
Your contributions helped us create a wonderful raffle for our families, while also supporting valuable fundraising for our school. We are so grateful to have such supportive businesses in our community!
A special thank you also goes to our School Association Committee for facilitating our Father’s Day Stall – your time and effort make such a difference for our students and families.
And most importantly, we hope that all the dads, grandfathers and special father figures had a very Happy Father’s Day – thank you for all that you do!

2025 Families School Satisfaction Survey
We want to hear from you, as input from families is very important to help us inform our school-planning and decision-making. Every year the Department for Education, Children and Young People conducts a School Satisfaction Survey to find out what your child(ren)'s school does well and where it may improve.
We would be grateful if you took part in our online survey about Beaconsfield Primary School.
The survey is open from Monday 25 August 2025 until Friday 19 September 2025 and should take about 5 minutes to complete.
Each family should nominate one person to fill in this survey for their child(ren).
Take the online survey by clicking this Link, or pasting it in your browser:
The survey is carried out on a secure website and all responses are anonymous and confidential. All families in this school received the same survey link and no identifying information is collected. A summary of the survey results will be provided to schools. Responses from individuals or small groups will NOT be disclosed to any Department for Education, Children and Young People staff.
Please contact the school office if you require any assistance.
Thank you for taking the time to fill in this survey.

At Beaconsfield Primary, we are committed to providing a healthy and safe environment for all of our students and families. We kindly remind families and community members that smoking and vaping are not permitted on school grounds, near school entrances, or around the student crossing.
Even outdoors, smoke can travel quickly and affect young lungs. By choosing to move well away from the school zone before lighting up, you are helping us set a positive example for children and protecting them from second-hand smoke.
Thank you for showing care and respect for our students, staff, and families by keeping our school environment smoke-free.
