Principal’s Report
Book Week - 2023 Theme – Read, Grow, Inspire.
Book Week will be held in Week 5 of Term 3.
We will be having a dress-up parade on Tuesday 22 August and students will be visiting local businesses in the area. Students are welcome to dress up as any character from a book.
Further details will be provided.
Libraries Tasmania Bookmark Competition
As part of the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s (CBCA) Book Week, Libraries Tasmania is again running the popular ‘Design a Bookmark’ competition. Last year Tasmania’s talented young people submitted 2,400 amazing entries. Competition closes 25 August.
New Deck and Shade Structure in ECE Playground
The new deck and shade structure in the early childhood playground has been very well received by our school community. Students are enjoying playing in this area at break times. We are seeing some wonderful student performances on the new ‘stage’. This will also be a terrific area as the weather warms to support outdoor learning.
Thank you to Ryan, Danny and Jaxon who assisted with spreading softfall around the edge of the decking.

Science Week at George Town Library
Year 5 and 6 students visited the George Town Library this week to engage in Science Week activities. The Young Tassie Scientists inspired our young people to ask many intriguing questions.
Winter Sport – Year 4-6
Winter Sport is continuing throughout the Term 3, however, we have had to make some changes to venues due to the wet conditions of our school grounds. To give our students the best opportunity to play games, we have moved Round 3 (11 August) and 5 (8 Sept) to Blue Gum Park in George Town. Round 4 (25 August) will stay scheduled at Beaconsfield. Let’s hope for some better weather in the coming weeks.

Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey
The wellbeing of our students is important to us - we want to hear how students feel, and think, about different things going on in their lives.
Those in Year 4-6 at Beaconsfield Primary School be taking part in the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey. The results from this survey will help us get a picture of the current wellbeing of our students, and what we can do to improve future wellbeing for learning. The more students who take part, the clearer our picture will be.
The Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey is part of the Department’s Child and Student Wellbeing Strategy .
The details for the survey are:
When: from 28 August – 22 September
Who: Year 4-6 students
What do I need to do: You and your child don’t need to do anything. The survey will be done in class time and will not require your child to prepare in any way.
A letter with more information has been sent home with all Year 4-6 students, including Frequently Asked Questions and a form to sign and return to the school if you do not want your child to participate in the survey.
If you would like further information, please contact Beaconsfield Primary School.
Thank you for supporting us to ensure that all our learners are safe, feel supported and are able to flourish, so they can engage in learning.

What’s been happening in 2/3 Evans
In 2/3 Evans we have been learning about living things and life cycles. We have lots of tadpoles in a tank which we are watching grow into frogs. We have written some wondering questions about tadpoles that we are investigating. We have also learned about the life cycles of fungi, and we have a mushroom bag that is growing edible mushrooms for us to watch. We looked at a Fungi Flip with pictures of all the different fungi that can be found in Tasmania.
