Welcome to another exciting fortnight at Beaconsfield Primary School! I am continually inspired by the way our students demonstrate our school values of Respect, Courage, Growth, Connection, and Responsibility in their learning and interactions every day.
It’s been a very busy start to the term, with many wonderful opportunities already underway — particularly for our Year 5 and 6 students. We have welcomed staff from Exeter High School for transition visits, giving students a chance to meet teachers and learn more about secondary school life. Later this term, our Year 6 students will also take part in planned taster activities at Exeter High School to support a smooth and confident transition.
Congratulations to the students who attended the Country Gold Trials last week for various sports. We are proud to announce the following students have been selected to represent our school:
Football: Lochie, Ethan, Jak and Ryker
Netball: Aria and Jorja
Soccer: Jackson and Blake
AFLW Gala Day: Savanna, Jorja, Millie
We were also delighted to welcome the Terrapin Puppet Theatre, who shared their latest stage show with students from Kinder to Year 6. This engaging performance sparked plenty of excitement and conversation, and it was wonderful to see our students captivated by such a creative and imaginative art form.
Our Year 5 and 6 students are looking forward to Camp in Ulverstone on September 4 – 5 — an exciting team-building experience that will strengthen friendships, develop leadership skills, and encourage students to take on new challenges.
As part of National Science Week, Year 3/4 Dawber attended the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery (QVMAG) this week. Congratulations to Mrs Dawber, who was the lucky recipient of a ballot process that allowed her class to take part in this special learning experience.
Updates to Teaching and Learning in Literacy
You may have noticed some changes in the way we’re teaching reading in our school. These changes are part of a statewide commitment to ensure every student develops strong reading skills that will support them throughout school and beyond.
Learning to read is a skill that must be taught — it’s not something we’re born knowing how to do. That’s why our teachers are using high-quality, evidence-based strategies to help every child become a confident reader.
Our students are learning to read through structured and explicit literacy teaching. This means they are building foundational literacy skills step by step, with each new skill reinforcing the last. This approach helps students grow into capable, independent readers.
We’re proud to be part of this statewide effort to provide structured literacy lessons that are proven to work. Thank you for your ongoing support as we help every student succeed.
Wellbeing for Learning: Student Wellbeing and Engagement Surveys
Over the coming weeks from 25 August – 19 September, all students from Years 4–6 will take part in the annual Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey. This survey provides valuable insight into how students feel about their learning, relationships, safety, and sense of belonging at school. The information collected helps us make informed decisions about our wellbeing programs and ensures we are creating an environment where all students can thrive. Families can be assured that survey responses are confidential, and the data is used only to improve school practices. Further information will be provided to students.
Celebrating Student Success
Congratulations to the following students on their recent sporting achievements:
Jak D, Jackson M and Blaze R – selected to represent the Northern Tasmanian Junior Soccer Association U12 and U11 teams respectively, competing in Queensland this September.
Lochie M – selected for the U12 Northern Tasmanian Devils AFL Academy team.
We wish all these students the very best as they take part in their upcoming competitions and proudly represent our community.

Request for Donation of Spare Uniform Items
From time to time, students may require a change of clothing during the school day. If you have any Beaconsfield Primary School uniform items that are no longer needed, we would gratefully accept them as donations.
We are particularly in need of smaller sizes, such as sizes 4, 6 and 8.
Your contributions help us support students in feeling comfortable and confident throughout their school day. Thank you for your generosity and ongoing support.
