Principal’s Report

Mid-Year Reporting and Family Engagement Meetings

We place high value on family partnerships and the role you play in your child’s education. As such, reporting conversations will be available during Week 8 and 9 of Term 2. This is an opportunity to share information about your child and discuss their academic, social, and emotional development. Information has been sent home about booking appointments to meet with your child’s teacher.

Reports will not be sent home. They will be available for collection from the office on the afternoon of your scheduled meeting time.

Mid-Year Reports will contain your child’s current ratings against the Australian Curriculum or your child’s individual learning plan and information about their attitude, effort, and behaviour. In line with the DECYP reporting requirements there will not be a written comment.

Tasmanian All Schools Cross Country

Earlier in the week 12 students travelled to Symmons Plains to participate in the Tasmanian All Schools Cross Country Championships. Year 3/4 students raced a 2km track, whilst 5/6s had a 3km course. Both courses were challenging with undulating trails and tricky surfaces. Students were outstanding with their effort with many races having fields of 240+ participants. Well done everyone.

Premier’s Reading Challenge

The Premier’s Reading Challenge is underway, and we look forward to seeing our students join in the reading fun. Information was sent home at the beginning of the week to families to outline the challenge. As an incentive to take part students will receive a token for every ten books they read and record in their diary.

Students will go in the draw to receive some terrific prizes including free admission to Kids Paradise, free admission to Launceston Lanes (bowling), 1 x $100 gift voucher at Seahorse World Gift Shop, 1 x free admission to Platypus House, and 1 x $50 Tas Petroleum voucher. Many thanks to the businesses who have supported the reading initiative.

The Challenge is not a competition but a way to encourage children and young people to develop a love of reading. Reading is important for many reasons: learning, adventure, escaping, but most of all for FUN!

Winter Sport Year 5/6

Winter Sport will commence in Term 3 for students in Years 5/6. Sports available are mixed football, soccer, hockey and netball. Students have nominated their preferences in class and have received a letter outlining the equipment/clothing required, code of conduct for students and families, along with the roster. All permissions MUST be returned for students to participate. All matches will be hosted in George Town at Blue Gum Park or South George Town Primary School. All Tamar Schools will travel to George Town to participate in the roster. Spectators are welcome to attend.

Swimming Program in PE

It was great to commence our Swimming Program as a part of our regular timetable PE lessons. Prep students have spent time focused on water familiarisation, whilst other students are building their confidence in the water and stoke development. Thank you to families for supporting their children to be organised with their gear for these lessons.

NAIDOC Week

Each year, Australians come together to celebrate NAIDOC Week and to honour the history, cultures, contribution and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

In 2025, NAIDOC Week will be celebrated from 6 to 13 July with the theme The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy(external site). This year marks a milestone of 50 years of honouring and elevating Indigenous voices, culture, and resilience. The theme celebrates not only the achievements of the past, but the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of our young leaders, the vision of our communities, and the legacy of our ancestors.
