Principal’s Report
Welcome Back
We’ve hit the ground running for the start of Term 2 quite literally. Last week was our school Cross Country event which was held in perfect running conditions. The new course went well and will give our students selected in the TPSSA Team (Years 3-6) an advantage running on their home course next week. Thank you to families and friends who came along and supported students on the day. Thank you also to Mrs Gore and Mr Lindsay for their preparation of the course and of students in PE lessons in the lead up to the carnival.
It was wonderful to see a large group of students attend the ANZAC Day Service here in Beaconsfield during the holidays. Our students marched proudly as a part of the parade and listened intently and respectfully. Well done to our student leaders, Angus and Tayla who gave the student address and as well to Cohen and Luke who laid wreaths on behalf of our school.
Congratulations to Amelia, Abel, Eden and Maxton who were selected as representatives of the Tamar Primary Schools Team to compete at the State All Schools Athletics last week. You were marvellous – great work!
National Simultaneous Story Time – Wednesday May 22
National Simultaneous Story Time (NSS) is an annual event that celebrates the joy of reading and storytelling. It brings together thousands of children, families, schools, libraries, and communities across the nation to share in the magic of literature. This year, our K-6 students will gather in the Hall and read the book together with Steve and Chester from Story Dogs.
The picture book, Bowerbird Blues from Aura Parker, stars a beautiful bowerbird on the search for blue! It’s a moving story of longing and connection, that unfolds as the bowerbird’s search sends him soaring across the sea, sky, and city. He swoops and snatches vibrant treasures for his collection, and soon his bower—a mix of natural and unnatural objects—attracts something greater and more fulfilling than he could ever have imagined.
Walk Safely to School Day
National Walk Safely to School was last Friday. Approximately 100 students challenged themselves to walk a little further to get to school safely. Thank you to staff and families who supported students with this activity. On arrival to school students enjoyed a special breakfast of pikelets and a milk drink. Thank you to Variety Club Tasmania for providing our students with breakfast.
Mother’s Day Stall
Many thanks to the School Association and other volunteers who coordinated our Mother’s Day Stall last week. It was great to also have our Student Leaders on hand to assist at this activity. Wishing all the Mother’s or significant person in your lives a Happy Mother’s Day for last weekend.
Tasmanian Premier’s Reading Challenge
Unlock the power of reading with the Premier's Reading Challenge!
Every year, thousands of students across Tasmania participate in the Premier's Reading Challenge. The Challenge encourages personal reading goals over 10 weeks, embracing diverse formats, including recommended books.
The Premier’s Reading Challenge is a personal challenge – not a competition. It aims to instil a love of reading in our children and young people by encouraging regular reading, while also raising community awareness about the importance of reading with children and home.
This year the Challenge will run from 17 June to 23 August. Further information to follow in the coming weeks. Premier's Reading Challenge - Department for Education, Children and Young People (decyp.tas.gov.au)
The 2024 Australian Early Development Census
The Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) collects data every three years to find out how children are tracking in their early years of learning. This is happening in all schools during Term 2. The AECD helps us to understand how children are developing at the start of their school journey. Knowing this information helps schools to plan best for the students we have in our school. Please see the attached flyer for further information.
