Principal’s Report
Students continue to be engaged and focused on their learning with many planned activities occurring at this busy time of year. Last week Year 3/4 students went on an excursion to Tasmania Zoo. This was part of their learning connected to curriculum content covered in HaSS earlier in the year. Kinder students also visited Tasmania Zoo with lots of excited young people – the Dinosaur Swap was a hit. Year 6 students spent Orientation Day at Exeter High School, getting a taste for Year 7. Students enjoyed the different subjects with PE and Science both getting lots of mentions.
Many Year 5 students also stepped outside of their comfort zone and nominated themselves as future leaders of the school. Students presented a speech to their peers in Years 3-6, followed by a voting process for students and staff. Well done to all students who challenged themselves to take on a leadership role. Students will be notified of the results in the coming week with the group to be announced at the Presentation Assembly on Friday 8 December.
Presentation Assembly
Our 2023 Presentation Assembly will be held on Friday 8 December in the School Hall. This assembly recognises selected students in Prep – Year 5 for their commitment to learning, as well as acknowledging Year 6 students for their significant personal achievements. Families of students receiving awards at the Presentation Assembly will be notified by a personal text message or written invitation (Year 6 students). Due to capacity restrictions the assembly will be by invitation only and a strict RSVP policy will be in place.
Hall Opening and Art Gallery
Last Thursday was the official opening of the redevelopment of the School Hall, followed by the opening of our Student Art Gallery. It was wonderful to have so many families in attendance and to watch the excitement of students sharing their artwork with their families. Thank you to everyone who came along. The Gallery will continue to be on display until the end of the year with the framed artwork to remain for 12 months. Please feel free to wander through the hallways of an afternoon after 3pm to view the art.
End of Year Reporting
A reminder to families that end of year reports will be distributed on Friday 15 December 2023. Class placements for 2024 along with other important information will also be distributed with reports.
The report will show your child’s learning achievement on a 9-point visual scale for students in Years Prep to 10. The 9-point scale shows where your child’s learning achievement is against the expected standard for their year level.
For more information about reports:
- School Reports FAQs
- Understanding the 9-point scale
- Visit the Department’s website at: School reports - Department for Education, Children and Young People (decyp.tas.gov.au)
Schools are required to report using the 9-point scale for:
Prep: English, Mathematics and Science
Years 1 – 6: English, Mathematics and Science Humanities and Social Sciences
Students will also receive a rating against the Australian Curriculum for HPE (Health and Physical Education) and Music. This will be on a 5-point scale which shows where your child’s learning achievement is against the expected standard for their year level.
Kinder students will receive their Kindergarten Development Checks as well as their Celebration of Learning Portfolios. Students with Personalised Learning Plans will receive their report relevant to their learning plans goals.
Schools Triathlon Challenge – Devonport
A group of 16 Year 3-6 students and their families travelled to Devonport last Friday to participate in the Schools Triathlon Challenge representing Beaconsfield Primary School. There were over 1000 students entered in the race – which meant fields of over 100 were on the start line for each event. Just entering the water and making it around the first buoy was a challenge in the choppy conditions. Transitioning through to the ride and run saw students push themselves, showing resilience and determination. Some students competed in the individual event – doing all three legs, swim, ride, run, while others lined up for the teams event. Well done to all students for trying a new sport and thank you to families for supporting our young people.
