Principal’s Report
It has been another busy start to the week with students engaging in Hip Hop Dance Workshops run by Justin from Ministry of Dance. This was a highly engaging activity, and it certainly got the heart pumping. You may have been lucky enough to get a rendition of the dances at home!
Swimming Carnival
Our Swimming Carnival for students in Years 3-6 was held at George Town Pool on Tuesday. Weather conditions were reasonable for swimming, and it was fantastic to see students participating and doing their best. There were some strong performances on the day with several students winning multiple 25m events, Jasper S, Kacie M, Lochie M, Holly R, Ruby R, Maison S, Ryan S, Jillian M – this was a great effort!
Well done to Flinders House for winning the overall points score for the Swimming Carnival. The results were close right through the formal races and Flinders hit the front at the end of the novelty events. Final score were Flinders 700 and Bass 583. Thank you to family and friends who came along to support students on the day. It was great to have some extra cheering.
Congratulations to students who will be selected to represent Beaconsfield Primary at the upcoming TPSSA Carnival on November 15 at the George Town Pool. A letter will go home with those students in the next week.
Performance
Last week, Kinder to Year 6 students enjoyed a performance from Terrapin Puppet Theatre Company who presented ‘The Riddle of Washpool Gully’. This performance was a combination of old-fashioned storytelling with contemporary puppetry and miniature sets. The storyline was a reimagined tale of Australian mythology about incredible creatures that might still live in the uncharted corners of our vast country. Students thoroughly enjoyed the performance, and they were sure to hang on to their buddy for safety!
Year 5-6 Camp
Year 5/6 students had a wonderful time at Camp Clayton in Ulverstone at the end of Week 1. Thank you to school staff, Bronwyn Jamieson, Luke James, Coby Gore and Sherree Harris who accompanied students on this overnight camp. Activities such as these cannot go ahead without the support of staff willing to go along. Thank you also to the School Association who assisted with subsidising the costs of this activity for students and families. Please read on to see the student report of their time at camp.
New Electronic Sign
You may have seen our new electronic school sign on Grubb Street near the entrance to the Administration Building. This will enable us to share images of students and short blurbs about upcoming events. It has been a pleasure to work with Flying Colours a local Tasmanian company on this project. We look forward to seeing it operational within the next week.
Friday Student Free Day
Friday is a Student Free Day enabling staff to engage in Professional Learning. Our focus for this day will be to investigate our current Student Engagement and Wellbeing Data as collected in surveys completed by students in Years 4-6. We will also use this day to further our learning around the school’s improvement priorities which have focused on Reading, Spelling and the Pre-Conditions for Learning. Learning from these days is incredibly important to making progress within our school, as well as refining our future focus areas for improvement.
Vandalism
It is disappointing to report that in the last fortnight we have had vandalism occur at school. This damage included the destruction of four new school bins, breaking a gate and damage to newly planted trees in the Kindergarten area, as well as the theft of a stormwater grate leaving an exposed hole in the yard. As a school we have been consulting with police about this issue. We are grateful to local people who reported the damage. The cost to replace/repair the damage is estimated at approx. $3500, this is at the expense of programs and/or resources to our students which is disheartening.

Camp Clayton
On the 19th of October, Grade 5/6 Jamieson and 5/6 James went to Camp Clayton. Mrs Gore and Mrs Harris also went. When we got there, we had food and had 15 minutes to get our cabin ready.
We went outside and when everyone was out, we got into groups. Mrs Jamieson was our teacher, and we went to the Zipline first. The other group went to the Giant Swing. The Zipline was so fun, and we went over a lake with platypuses in it. Then after the Zipline we got some lunch.
Then we went on the Giant Swing. They said it was 12 metres, but it looked taller than that. Some people went to the top and some people went halfway. Not many people went upside down, but l did. The worst part was we had to lift the person up on the Giant Swing. We had some afternoon tea and some free time.
We had some tea and then we went to the cabin and got in our pyjamas and got snacks ready for the movie. We watched Puss in Boots The Last Wish. It was a little bit funny. Then we had 15 minutes to settle down and turn the lights off. Mrs Jamieson scared me and Isabella while checking on us.
After a little while me and Isabella kept talking because we couldn’t fall asleep, and the beds were not comfortable.
On the 20th of October Mrs Gore woke us up and we put everything in our bags and put it outside our cabin. Then we had breakfast. We had toast and cereal. Then my group went to the Obstacle Course.
After the Obstacle Course we had morning tea, then we played Gaga Ball and went on the trampoline. Some people also played mini golf. We had some lunch and got ready to hop on the bus and go home.
The End.

We caught the bus to Camp Clayton. It was a long ride and once the camp was in site everyone was busting to get off the bus. When we got off the bus, we got our bags and suitcases and ate our lunch that we packed.
For an hour we got to set up our cabins and pack away our belongings. The mattresses where tilted sideways and were a bit heavy. I was in cabin eight and cabin seven was connected to my cabin by a small room. The girls in my cabin were: Jillian, Marley, Kaylee and me. The girls in the cabin across from me were: Ruby, Taylah, Isabella and Indie.
We were then split into two groups: Mr James and Mrs Gore had one group and Mrs Jamieson and Mrs Harris had the other. I was in Mr James’ and Mrs Gore’s group. We went to the Giant Swing; I was a bit scared to go on, but I had gone to school camp at my old school and didn’t go on it that year so this year I gave it a go. It was very fun on my first go I went halfway up. On my second go I went nearly all the way to the top. Some kids didn’t go on and I don’t blame them it was a bit scary.
Before we went on the Zipline or Flying Fox we had afternoon tea. For afternoon tea we had a slice of watermelon and a cookie with hundreds and thousands in them. Next, we went on the Zipline, we had to wear a harness and we had five turns each. There were heaps of rocks that the camp guy said we were allowed to play around with to pass the waiting time since there were only four harnesses. Nate and I started building a wall around the four tree stumps that were lined up like seats. There were five different ways to go down the Zipline. You could: Spin, jump off the platform, run up, go backwards or walk off the platform. And what’s even better is that we were ziplining over a lake. Some kids wanted to fall off the Zipline and cannonball into the lake. And if you put your arms out when you were on the Zipline it felt like you were flying (kind of).
For dinner we had gravy sausages, steamed carrots, green beans with mashed potato. We had chocolate pudding for dessert and some people put salt in their pudding. After we ate dinner, we went back to our cabin to shower and put pj’s on. We grabbed our pillows, sleeping bags and lollies and took it to the watch the movie ‘Puss in Boots - The Last Wish’.
School camp was a very fun experience.

Here is a recount about 5/6 Camp this year.
Both 5/6 classes put our bags, our suitcases and luggage onto the bus, then hopped on the bus. We caught the bus to Camp Clayton in Ulverstone. It was a long bus trip. When we got there, we grabbed all our bags off the bus, had some morning tea and we located our cabins and went to set up for the night. I was in cabin 10 with Annabelle and Annikah and our group shared a lounge with Halle, Milly, Mia, Brooke and Kitarna in cabin 9. After all the group cabins had set up, we went outside to get ready. When we got split up into groups, Mr James and Mrs Gore had the other group and Mrs Jamieson and Mrs Harris had my group. I was in a group with some of my friends we went to the Zipline, and Mr James’ group went to the Giant Swing first. When we got down to the Zipline the guy was explaining how to put the harnesses on and when you are on the Zipline you go over a little lake. It was lots of fun. When you go on the Giant Swing the ‘full team’ pull and you yell out stop when you think you are high enough, then you pull a red string and you would drop then swing. On Friday we did GaGa ball, trampolines and a challenge course.
I had lots of fun at Camp Clayton and it is a great experience to do things that are new, and you might not have done before.
