Principal’s Report
Academic Competitions
This term we have had a number of Year 3-6 students selected to participate in the world-renowned ICAS and nation-wide Australian Maths Trust competitions. Both of these competitions are designed to assess students’ higher order thinking and problem solving skills.
Congratulations to the students listed over further in the newsletter who have received an award.
Uniform Addition
We have a new soft-shell jacket which will be an addition to our school uniform. Unfortunately, the material of the current spray jackets is no longer available, and we have had to source an alternative. The jacket is pictured below and should be available later in Term 4.
We are also stocking navy blue unisex shorts in a quick dry fabric. These are available through the Qkr! App.
Peace Pole
Beaconsfield Primary have been fortunate to be working alongside Rotary West Tamar to be part of an installation of a Peace Pole. The Peace Pole is an internationally recognised symbol of the hopes and dreams of humanity.
Each Peace Pole bears the message ‘May Peace Prevail on Earth’ in different languages on each of its 8 plaques. One is Japanese as this is the country in which they originated in 1955, in response to the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The other languages featured on the pole are, English, Palawa kani, Auslan, German, Indonesian, Māori and Spanish.
There are over 250,000 in every country of the world.
Next year is the 100th anniversary of Rotary International in Tasmania. The district is aiming to reach 100 Peace Poles in Tasmania by the end of 2024.
The unveiling of the Peace Pole was on Thursday during the week, where student leaders addressed the media at the official launch and our choir performed. Thank you to Mrs Kathryn Darlow of Rotary West Tamar and The Men’s Shed for working with us on this project.
Class Placements for 2024
Staff are in the process of planning classes for 2024. Whilst we don’t take requests for students to be in classes or with particular teachers, if you have information which will assist in constructing classes for 2024, please forward it in writing to Shaun Sexton, Tahlia Ross or Daisy Stephens by Friday 20 October. Considerations are given to creating balanced classes to meet students’ academic and social needs.

The Schools Triathlon Challenge
The Primary Schools Triathlon is on Friday 24 November 2023 for students in Years 3-6. The event is held in Devonport at the Bluff.
The Schools Triathlon Challenge is a well organised event that focuses on participation and fun. The event has two categories to enter - individual and teams’ event. The team event is like a relay with a swim, ride, and run leg with three students making up the team to compete in each leg. Or students can participate as an individual completing all three legs on their own.
As in previous years, Beaconsfield Primary will support students on the day and provide a teacher to help supervise and get students ready for their events, however, we won’t be able to transport students to or from the event due to the complexities with transporting bikes etc. Parents/carers will need to arrange transport for students.
Entry forms will be available from the school office if you wish for your child to enter this event or available through the link below. Please contact Mrs Gore should you require further information. Entry fees are $25 per students which can be paid to the school office. Entries must be received before the end of Term 3.
2024 Kindergarten Enrolments
Enrolments for 2024 Kindergarten are now open! If you have a child (or know of a child in our local area) who turns 4 before the 1 January 2024 (born in 2019), please contact our school office to collect an enrolment form.
Proof of your child’s birth, immunisation records, evidence of residential address and parent/carer identification will be required as part of the enrolment process.
You are welcome to join our Launching into Learning and/or Pre-Kinder Programs over the coming months to help further prepare your child for Kindergarten in the new year.
